A while ago, my son-in-law had to give up his online business due to increased overheads etc. He is a hard worker, used to grafting but he was at a loss as to what to do to make an income for his family.
I mentioned that he looked at mobile car valeting as a way of making an income as I had seen reports of people making a good income from that type of business. I also suggested that he charged 20 to £25 to clean someone’s car so if he cleaned 3 – 4 cars a day for 5 days he would get a livable income.
To cut a long story short, he took up the idea. He got an old van that he kitted out with a generator and a large water tank so that he clean anyone’s car without having to hook up to water or electricity. He also kitted himslef out with the cleaning material required. He began advertising on facebook and on the local website for business. However he took this idea to a whole new level where he offered professional valeting of vehicles both inside and out.
Now get this: Instead of charging the same sort of prices that the local car wash would charge He upped his game massively. What I didn’t know was that was a certain type of water that he could use which did not streak, and a polish that would a high class finish No matter what the weather. For this service he charged £50 or inside and outside valeting, and the results were amazing. He was quickly booked out by people who wanted to sell their car, go to something like a wedding, or by people with dogs or kids that made the inside of their vehicles dirty. and of course there were people with top of the range cars who loved to show them off. Then, there were company owners who simply did not have the time to leave their work to get their cars or vans cleaned, so the vehicle could be cleaned at their place of work. And they got a couple of vehicle showrooms to have their cars cleaned, ready for selling.
The bottom line is that he charges £75 -£100 a vehicle, and does 2 -3 vehicles a day. He is so busy that this also takes up some weekends – so work out the wonderful income to be had!
Oh – I almost forgot. He cleans caravans, boats, motorhomes etc. A Caravan costs £299 for a full clean, takes about 3 hours. That’s £100 an hour…
Note: This is not sitting in front of a pc. This is the GOYA type of work (Get Off Your Arse) but the rewards are excellent.
Just in: He and his brother have been nominated for the UK Startup Awards!
